Botanist, educated in the University of Amsterdam, taking his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1910 at Utrecht; in November of that year he was appointed Botanical Assistant in the division of Botanical Laboratories (since 1912 division for Plant Diseases) of the Botanic Garden at Buitenzorg, Java; from 1916-23 Director of the General Experiment Station of the A.V. R.O.S. (Medan, Sumatra); from 1923-28 Director of the Department of Agriculture at Buitenzorg; 1928-33 Governor of Surinam and subsequently a member of the Second Chamber in Holland. |
