Joined the D.E.I. Government Service in 1851, placed at the disposal of the Director of Agriculture; in 1855 stationed in Priangan Residency, in 1856 transferred to Kedoe; in 1859 appointed District Officer of the Civil Service in the Lampong Districts (S. Sumatra); in 1863 District Officer at Makassar (SW. Celebes), and since July 1865 Assistant Resident at Montrado (W. Borneo). He was evidently interested in caoutchouc-yielding trees.1 |

He sent material from Sumatra to the ‘Natuurkundige Vereeniging’ at Batavia (pres. 1860-61);2 and young plants of ‘kelajangan’ from W. Borneo to Teysmann, before 1868.3 |
