Born: 1857. Died: 1926, Buitenzorg, Java.

 

career:

Indonesian, since 1869 in the employ of the Herbarium at Buitenzorg, finally ‘mantri’; plant collector who attended several expeditions in the Malay Archipelago. In 1922 he was awarded the Golden Star for loyalty and merit; he retired in 1925, after 56 years of service.

Several plants were named after him.

 

Collecting localities:

1888. Moluccas. With Wertheim Expedition (see there) to the Kai Islands:1 sailing from Prick (March 10) via Bali (Boeleleng), SW. Celebes (Makassar); Ambon (24-25), visiting Papenberg; P. Wetar (Ilwaki), P. Kisar, P. Leti, P. Damar, P. Babar (Tepa); Tanimbar Islands (March 30 on P. Sera; some hours on P. Larat); Aroe Islands (P. Wamar, Dobo); Kei (= Kai) Islands: Toe(w)al (Apr. 3), Noehoero(w)a; excursions to Ewoe, Langgoer, Sathean, Doellan, Ibra, Daboed, Faan, Totoad, P. Dranan, P. Soea, P. Roemadan; Wertheim sailed from Toeal (July 6), leaving Jaheri behind; when W. returned (Oct. 6), Jaheri recently had come back from a journey to Hoog-Kei (= ? Noehoetjoet) and subsequently embarked for Batavia.-1893. Moluccas (incl. Kai and Aroe Islands, Zuidooster and Zuidwester Islands) & New Guinea. With M. Treub (itiner: etc. see there).-1895. Sumatra East Coast (July-Aug.), from Permandian in Deli.2-1896-97. With Nieuwenhuis Expedition (itiner. etc. see there) to Borneo, assisted by Lahidin of the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens. Jaheri collected at least in the following localities: Tenggang, Nanga Bahangan, Peningin, Sg. Bloe-oe, Sg. Sibouw (= ? Sibau), Sg. Pary, Sg. Magne, Sg. Broen(e)i, Sg. Dengey (= Dingei), Leleboelan Tepoetsey, Bt Maong, Bt Liang Karing, Sg. Doho (= Deho), Tepoh and Sg. Sak.-1901. Dutch S. New Guinea in the ‘Java’ : Merauke (Apr.), Fak-Fak and Skroë (Vogelkop); Thursday Isl. (May) ; Tanimbar (June 6); Misoöl; Ambon.-1910. W. Java: Tjibodas.

Herb. Bog. [BO]: 478 nos from the Kai Islands (+ 70 fruits for the carpological collection) and living plants and seeds for Hort. Bog.;3 living plants collected with Treub (see there); collection Sumatra East Coast;4 1764 Borneo nos (1896-97) + living plants; + 250 New Guinea nos etc. (1901),5 and 181 nos of seeds and plants for Hort. Bog.

The collection of the Kai Islands was sent for elaboration to the Herb. Leiden [L] in 1906.
