From 1834-39 schoolmaster in the D.E.I., in 1839 entering the Civil Service. In 1843 appointed District Officer in Natal (W. Sumatra), in 1852 Assistant Resident of Agam and in 1853 of Priaman, the latter places situated in Sumatra West Coast. Several plants were named after him. |

Partly in Herb. Bog. [BO], also at Utrecht [U] and Leiden [L], principally from Priaman, Sumatra West Coast (1855-60). Several of the specimens in Herb. Bog. are numbered in the H.B. series. He made a large collection at the instigation of Teijsmann whom he met in Sumatra in 1857. He forwarded many living plants to Hort. Bog. |
