Was educated in Holland and returned to Java in 1829, where he was appointed officer in the Civil Service; first placed at the disposal of the Governor-General, since 1831 Assistant Resident of Buitenzorg. When his father left for Holland, he was charged with the supervision of Pondok Gedeh Estate near Buitenzorg. He quitted Government service in 1839 and then devoted himself entirely to the management of his estate. Aeschynanthus boschianus de Vriese was named after him. |

He sent several plants from Java to Hort. Amstelod., e.g. the above-mentioned Aeschynanthus (evidently leg. Gesker, see there), and to Hort. Lugd. Bat. |
