Born: 1903, Utrecht, Holland. |

Son of the former, botanist, educated at Utrecht University where he took his Ph.Dr’s degree in 1927.1 From 1928 employed in the laboratory of the Director of the Botanic Garden, Buitenzorg; in 1930 Chief of the Foreigners’ Laboratory there. At the end of 1932 he went to the U.S.A., where he settled at Pasadena (Cal.), originally appointed Asst Professor, in the course of years rising to Ordinary Professor. For some years Director of the Missouri Botanical Garden. In 1964 he accepted a professorship at Reno, conducting studies on desert plants and others as well. Author of many very important physiological papers. |
