Came to Java towards the end of 1915 as a Field Assistant at the Experiment Station for the Java Sugar Industry at Pasoeroean; since 1918 in charge of the experimental gardens of that institution. In 1940 he was pensioned off and planned his final departure to Holland,1 but the German invasion into that country compelled him to stay in Java, and in the same year he was temporarily attached to the Botanic Gardens at Buitenzorg. Soon afterwards he was stationed at Lawang as Overseer of a new branch of the Gardens, which was still to be laid out. |
