Went to Java as a 2nd lieutenant in the D.E.I. Army about 1930; in 1934 transferred to Atjeh, N. Sumatra, first at Blangkedjeren, and towards the end of 1936 at Bakongan. After the capitulation of the D.E.I. in 1942, he escaped to Colombo, returning to Java after the end of World War II. In 1946 he got wounded near Buitenzorg and was evacuated to Holland; Oct. 1947 he returned to Java once more. He found a track to G. Loser during a patrol from Oct. 28-Nov. 5, 1936; it was used by van Steenis in 1937. Later he made several other patrols on this mountain massive.1 |
