Gardener of the ‘Jardin des plantes’, Paris, who joined some French expeditions under command of Captain Baudin (see there), of which that of 1796-98 did not operate in Malaysian waters. He is commemorated in the genera Riedleia A.P.DC. and Riedléja Hassk. Wrote a letter to France, dated later than Sept. 23rd.2 [Confusion existed about the date of death, either Sept. 23rd or Oct. 21st] |

Voyage in ‘Le Naturaliste’ and ‘Le Géographe’, 1800-04; cf. detailed itiner., literat. etc. sub Leschenault; other members of the expedition were Guichenot and Sautier (see those). The expedition reached Timor on Aug. 21, 1801; Riedlé collected till his death in the environs of Koepang and made a trip into the interior with Péron (Aug. 29). |
