A member of the gardening staff of the East India Company’s Garden at Calcutta, who accompanied Wallich to Singapore in 1822 and preferred to remain in Penang, where he became a schoolmaster and was put in charge of a newly founded Botanic Garden near Ayer Hitam (1823-c. 1834), and collected several plants. Pleomele porteri N.E.Br. was named after him. |
