Was educated and took his Dr’s degree at Wageningen Agricultural College; since 1936 in the employ of the D.E. Indian Forest Service, placed at the disposal of the Director of the Forest Research Institute at Bui-enzorg,1 save for a short interruption, when he was stationed at Tjepoe (teak forests, Rembang Res.). With Ch. Versteegh (see there) he accompanied the Archbold Expedition 1938-39 to New Guinea (cf. sub Brass); after some disaccord Meijer Drees left the expedition in September 1938; his work was continued by Versteegh. After World War II he was stationed in Timor, and at Buitenzorg; subsequently on leave in Holland; in 1949 he returned to Indonesia. He is commemorated in the moss Blindia meyer-reesii Bartram. |

Herb. For. Res. Inst. Buitenzorg [BZF]: some from Java (Ja. nos), Celebes and Borneo; 647 New Guinea nos, partly together with Brass (literature see there); and Timor plants. The plants collected with Brass, in Herb. Arn. Arbor. [A], are mislabelled Brass & Myer Drees (instead of Meijer Drees), and consequently cited in this way in the Journal of the Arnold Arboretum. Herb. Bog. [BO]: 301 dupl. of New Guinea plants (nos 252-663). He possibly also collected in Banka.2 |
