Took his degree in political science in 1884, and subsequently his Ph. Dr’s degree in 1886; in the latter year he made a study tour to the U.S.A. in connexion with the problem of introducing economic American trees in Germany (Bavaria), on the way back visiting Japan, China, Java (Buitenzorg), and British India; 1887-91 professor at Tokio; 1891-93 Forest Officer in Germany; since 1893 professor at Munich. In 1902 he made a second tour round the world. |
