Born: 1907, Soerabaja, Java. Died: June 24, 1944, drowned during a transport of P.O.W.’s to Japan.

 

career:

Was educated at the Agricultural School at Deventer, Holland; planter on Bah Kapoel Estate, Pematang Siantar (Sum. East Coast), 1929-32; manager ofa dairy farm at Semarang, Centr. Java, 1932-35; in the latter period passing the final examination of the secondary school as outside-candidate, with the intention to go in for botany in Holland; during the slump he thought better of it and became a planter in the employ of the Internatio, successively stationed on Sringin Estate (Bodja) (some months), and Selokaton, 1936-41, both in Centr. Java; from mid-1941 till the outbreak of the war on Molio Ardjo near Dampit (Malang, E. Java).

When the draughtsmen of the Buitenzorg Herbarium were working on the ‘Japan mountain plants in colours’ (unpublished), he many times sent valuable living material, not available in West Java.
