Was educated at the Agricultural School at Deventer, Holland; planter on Bah Kapoel Estate, Pematang Siantar (Sum. East Coast), 1929-32; manager ofa dairy farm at Semarang, Centr. Java, 1932-35; in the latter period passing the final examination of the secondary school as outside-candidate, with the intention to go in for botany in Holland; during the slump he thought better of it and became a planter in the employ of the Internatio, successively stationed on Sringin Estate (Bodja) (some months), and Selokaton, 1936-41, both in Centr. Java; from mid-1941 till the outbreak of the war on Molio Ardjo near Dampit (Malang, E. Java). |
