Is cited as the collector of a no 273, Dendrobium scopa Lindl., in the Philippines (cf. Merrill, Enum. Philip. Fl. Pl., 1, p. 354). No collector of this name is known to the author, but two English nurserymen, viz Conrad Loddiges (1738; 1826, Hackney near London, England), who is commemorated in the genus Loddigesia Sims,1 and George Loddiges (1784 or ? 1786, Hackney; 1846, Hackney), who is commemorated in Cattleya loddigesii Lindl.2 By the firm of Loddiges several books were issued.3 |

As to collecting localities they yield the following data: Sumatra (1835, 1840-41); Malay Peninsula: P. Dinding (= Pangkor Isl.) (1835), Penang (1838-39), Singapore (1839-40), Mt Ophir (1840); Java (1838-39); Philippines (incl. Manila) (1836-39, 1841). Part of these data correspond with those of Cuming (see there), one of the firm’s collectors; others do not, viz: P. Dinding (= Pangkor Isl.) (1835), Java (1838-39), Sumatra (1835 and ‘41) and Manila (1841). Evidently other collectors were employed too. |
