career:

Went to New Guinea in 1891 under appointment from the Australian Board of Missions (Anglican), served at Dogura (Oct. 11, 1891-1892); from 1892-Nov. 1894 lay missionary at Taupota in SE. New Guinea. After a visit of Mr Winter on Nov. 21, 1894, he left the country on account of ill health; Mr W. thought him very unsuited for the positions he had been holding.1

Dendrobium kennedyi Schltr. was named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

He collected on behalf of F. von Mueller,2 material probably in Herb. Melbourne [MEL]; also in Herb. Kew [K].3 He collected on the Stirling Range.4
