Botanist, educated at Amsterdam, Zürich; and Berlin, who took his Dr’s degree in the University of Zürich; Chief of the division of Cane-breeding of the Experiment Station for Java Sugar Industry at Pasoeroean (E. Java), 1912-25; in 1925 appointed Professor of Taxonomy and Plant Geography at Wageningen Agricultural College.1 In 1946 he was dismissed on account of collaboration with the Germans during the years of occupation. In his early Java years he collected with his wife H.J. Hagedoorn (see there). He accompanied an American expedition to New Guinea, aiming at the collecting of unknown wild races of the sugarcane, in 1928 (see below). |
