career:

Pedologist, educated at Wageningen Agricultural College; in 1930 appointed at the Soil Science Institute, Buitenzorg; Dr’s degree at Wageningen in 1937;¹ from 1939 onwards in Holland, first on sick-leave and subsequently on half-pay.
