Botanist, educated at Utrecht University, where he took his Dr’s degree in 1935. He went to Java in May of the same year for the Linnaeus Fund, working some time in the Foreigners’ Laboratory at Buitenzorg; subsequently teacher of natural history at secondary schools at Soerabaja (1936-37), and Semarang. In 1946, after evacuation to Holland, he was appointed at a secondary school at Eindhoven. |
