Schoolmaster-missionary, from 1894-1931 working (for the Utrecht Mission Society) in Dutch New Guinea, stationed at Mansiman, Manoekwari, and Kwawi.1 He rendered service to Miss Gibbs (see there) when she was exploring that region in 1913. During his term of office he went twice on European leave, viz in 1914-16 and 1924-26. Pellionia vanhasseltii Gibbs was named after him. |
