An officer of the Government service of British New Guinea. In 1891 he accompanied M.H. Moreton (Leader)1 and A. Gibb Maitland (geologist)2 on an expedition to Mt Suckling, as collector of plants and birds. Leader of an expedition to Mt Dayman in 1894 (cf. sub Armit). |
|
1891. SE. New Guinea, Papua. Expedition to Mt Suckling: landed at Phillips Harbour, Collingwood Bay (July 16); reached an elevation of 7733 ft at ‘Disappointment Rock’, beyond which further progress was found impracticable; returned to starting place (Aug. 5). It seems certain that this expedition was not on Mt Suckling at all, but on a spur of the Goropu Mts, N to NE of Mt Suckling. |

The report states: ‘The plants met with were, until we reached an altitude of 6,500 feet, uninteresting. A few have been brought down’.1 |
