Got his military education in Holland and returned to the D.E.I. towards the end of 1884; from 1891-94 he attended staff college in Holland and subsequently went back to the Indies again. In 1904 he made a punitive expedition through the Gajo and Alas Lands,1 N. Sumatra, accompanied by the native collector Pringgo Admodjo (itiner., coll., etc. see there). In 1909 he was appointed Lieutenant-General; in 1914 he retired and returned to Holland. Sonerila daalenii Bakh.f. was named after him. |
