Entered the military service in 1807 and went through some campaigns in Russia and Spain. He went to the D.E.I. as Asst Inspector of the Military Administration; in the course of time colonel; he returned to Europe and was given the honorary rank of Major-General in 1835. He subsequently returned to the D.E.I. in 1840, was appointed Resident of the Priangan Regencies, and in 1846 Governor of the Moluccas. |

He sent Maba ebenus Spreng. and other plants from Ambon to Hort. Bog. in 1847.1 Other references2 give the name W. Cleerens, probably a mistake. |
