Born: 1865, Berlin, Germany. Died: 1933, Rome, Italy.

 

career:

Was educated at Freiburg, taking his Ph. Dr’s degree in 1893; of the Agricultural College at Berlin. He made a trip to Java in 1902-031 and worked for some time in the Treub Laboratory of the Botanic Gardens at Buitenzorg. At the time of his death he was a permanent member of the Internat. Agric. Institute at Rome.

 

Collecting localities:

Java (Oct. 1902-Febr. 1903). W. Java: environs of Buitenzorg (Oct. 1902); Priangan Res., G. Tangkoeban Prahoe, Lembang, Pengalengang, G. Papandajan, Sitoe Bagendit, near Garoet, Tjikadjang (all localities in Nov.); Centr. Java: Solo (Jan. 1903); E. Java: base and slope of G. Smeroe (Jan.). He collected in Singapore in 1903, probably on the way home.

Herb. Berl. [B]: nos 1410-2048, composed of about 100 useful plants (Java) etc., several hundreds of lichens (Java and Singapore). 250 Pathological objects were presented to the ‘Biologische Reichsanstalt’.
