career:

Captain in the British Navy, who brought Clerodendron bethuneanum Low (named after him) and several other fine plants from Borneo to England.¹ The specimen was most probably collected by H. Low.

Clerodendron squamatum Vahl var. bethuniana (Low) Bakh. was named after him.
