Mrs. M.J. van Steenis-Kruseman laboriously collected all data on collectors in the Southeast Asian Archipelago, also known as Malesia (comprising Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Phillippines, Singapore). She published her data in Flora Malesiana series 1, volume 1 as the Cyclopaedia of collectors with some Addenda and corrigenda at the end of volume 1. Two supplements were published in Flora Malesiana ser. 1, vol. 5 and 8. The data of the volumes 1, 5 and 8 are now combined into this website. Flora Malesiana is the major flora for the Malay Archipelago. It is published by the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland. The data are more or less complete up to 1974. Later data on collectors and their trips can be obtained from Flora Malesiana Bulletin (also a publication of the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland).

The data were slightly changed only. - The name of the town Leiden in the Netherlands, spelled Leyden in Flora Malesiana, has been changed back to Leiden. - Abbreviations of herbaria are added (under heading Collections) and these can be checked against the Index Herbariorum of which a short-cut has been added (red button in left column). - In Flora Malesiana the collecting trips are sometimes headed under Collecting localities, sometimes under Itinerary, this has been consequently changed into Collecting localities.

Reminder: The Ducth IJ combination is regarded as Y and used alphabetically as the latter. If all information per collector is available the following headings can be found: - short cuts to the subsequent paragraphs - sources of the data (Flora Malesiana part 1, 5, and/or 8) - name of collector - data and place of birth and death - short overview of career - collecting localities - collections (herbaria) - literature references - bibliography. - picture gallery (to be added later) |

The pages comprise several buttons. - A click on the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland logo returns one to the home page of the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland. |
- The home button in the left column links to the home page of this website. |
|
- The arrow to the left directs to a former menu (usually a choice menu) and |
|
- the up arrow to the top of the present page. |
|
- The red button with IH links to Index Herbariorum; on this website one can find the complete addresses and information on the different herbaria, these can be found via the abbreviations given under the 'Collections' headings. |

Two kinds of searches are possible, via Quick Search or searches via the Alphabetic Tables on the Home page. Quick Search allows to search on strings from a part of the collector name (e.g., 'eni' if one likes to fine 'Steenis'. The Tables offer as extra visits to multiple pages when a collector is mentioned more than once.
In case of Quick Search: -Enter a name of a collector or an abbreviation of a herbarium in the upper box. -Any name fitting the letters will appear in the box beneath it. -If the desired name or abbreviation appears in the large box, -then highlight the name in the large box by clicking on it -and press on the Search button. (press the QS button for a quick return to Quick Search)
Find Place Name In order to find a place name under a certain collector one can use the Find option of MS Windows Explorer. Press Ctrl-F and type the place name (indicate if you want to search down or upwards).
Warning: The website is still under construction. Names in red still have to be hyperlinked! |
