Engineer, educated at the Technical College, Zürich (Switzerland); Flying Officer of the Roy. Dutch Navy, 1931-37; in charge of the B.P.M. (Batavian Oil Co.) Aerial Mapping Service of E. Borneo, 1938-39; in active service of the Roy. Navy, 1939-46; and since 1947 Head of the Aerial Service of the N.N.G.P.M. (Netherlands New Guinea Oil Co.). He was a member of the Colijn Expedition to the Carstensz Mountains in New Guinea (see below). 1 The 3rd member was the geologist J.J. Dozy. In 1937 he discovered the Wissel Lakes which were named in his honour. He is commemorated in the moss Barbula wisselii Dixon. |
