Received his secondary education in Holland, and returned to Java in 1904, where he was appointed employee on the tea estate Panjairan (Priangan Res.). From 1907-24 Manager of the tea estate Tjidadap (S of Tjiandjoer, W. Java), from 1924-25 Manager of the ‘Nederlandsch-Indisch Land bouwsyndicaat’ (D.E. Indian Agricultural Syndicate) in Deli, from 1925-31 Manager and Manager in Chief of Kolèbèrès Estate near Bandoeng (W. Java). Together with R.C. Bakhuizen van den Brink (see there) he investigated the flora of the environs of Tjidadap, specially of the present Tjadasmalang Nature Reserve. Author of some small papers in the popular periodical ‘Mooi Bandoeng’ , 1933-35. Some orchids and other plants were named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936). |
