Wichers, Jan Hendrik Gabriël

Born: 1870, Koevorden, Dr., Holland. Died: 1945, Norg, Dr., Holland.

career:

In 1891 appointed lieutenant in the D.E. Indian Army, in 1904 promoted to the rank of captain, retired in 1911. When stationed at Padang Pandjang (Sumatra West Coast) in 1907, he owned a large collection of living orchids.

Dendrobium wichersii Schltr. and Eria wichersii Schltr. were named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

In Febr. 1907 he presented material of his living collection to Schlechter, who elaborated it together with his own collection.¹ Probably with Herb. Schlechter in Berlin Herb [B].
