Westenenk, Louis Constant

Born: 1872, coffee estate Penawangan, Demak Div., Semarang, Java.
Died: 1930, The Hague, Holland.

career:

Was educated in Holland, and in 1892 joined the D.E. Indian Civil Service. From 1893-97 he was stationed in W. Borneo, from 1897-1924 in Sumatra, viz in Sumatra West Coast (1897-1900), Atjeh (1900-04), Sumatra West Coast (1905-15), Resident of Benkoelen (1915-20), and Governor of Sumatra East Coast (1920-24); a Member of Council at Batavia, 1924-25; retired in 1925. Back in Holland he was for some years Adviser for Indonesian Students; in 1928 Government Director of the Netherlands Indian Airlines, and since 1929 ditto of the Royal Dutch Airlines (K.L.M.).

Author of some popular books, and some small ethnological papers on Sumatra¹ and Borneo. He brought about the Rafflesia reservates in Benkoelen.

Cordiglottis westenenkii J.J.Sm. was named after him.
