Zoologist (main interest herpetology), educated at Kansas, where he took his Ph.D. in 1926. Went to the P.I. in 1912; from 1916-20 Chief division Fisheries, Bur. of Science, Manila, P.I.; from 1923-24 Head Dept Zoology, Philippines; since 1927 at Kansas University, Professor from 1934 onwards. Eria and Malaxis taylori Ames were named after him. |

In 1913 he sent 63 Philippine plants for identification to Herb. Manila [PNH]. In his ‘Enumeration Philip. Flow. Pl.’ Merrill cites several numbers of his (e.g. l, 9, 10, 28, 202), most of the plants evidently being orchids; in Dec. 1922 he collected on Mt Maquiling, Luzon; plants from Mindanao too.
