From 1878-89 observer of the Observatory at Hamburg, in which function he was stationed in S. Georgia in 1882/83. He was the leader of an expedition to New Guinea (see below), in which island he founded a meteorological station at Finschhafen1 in June 1886. From 1890-1923 Government Inspector for examinations of steersmen for foreign trade; in 1914 he travelled in the Crimea. Cyrtandra schraderi K.Schum. and Aglaia schraderiana Harms were named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936). |
