1885. SE. New Guinea, Papua. Thursday Isl. and Prince of Wales Isl. (Sept.), and return to Thursday Isl. Tour by boat in the schooner ‘Elsea’ leaving Thursday Isl. on Oct. 1; some islands in Torres Straits; Port Moresby (Oct. 11-12, trip to Koitapu); a trip to the sources of Laloki River, and subsequently sailing for the Cloudy and Baxter Bay via Hula, Kerepuna, Kalo (= Kemp Welch) River, ascending the same for 20 miles;1 back at Port Moresby; sailing for Bola, Lilley Isl., Delena (Hall Sound), Maiva, Moti-Motu; Thursday Isl. (after absence of 6 weeks). |

In 1886 he returned to Sydney with a collection of weapons and other ethnological objects, 60 species of birds of paradise and numerous orchids. At least partly in the Queensland Museum. |
