A jurist who went to British India in 1829; from 1836-47 in the Malay Peninsula (Recorder of Penang etc.), later Chief Justice in Ceylon. He was a friend of Griffith’s. He is commemorated in the genus Norrisia Gardn. and in some other plant species. |

He sent plants to Griffith, Sir W.J. Hooker, Lady Dalhousie (see those), and Gardner in Ceylon.1 The herbaria of Griffith, Hooker and Lady Dalhousie came to Kew [K] and so did Norris’s own fern collection. Herb. Berl. [B]: Malacca plants (pres. c. 1849); also dupl. in Herb. Florence [FI], and Herb. Leiden [L] (pres. 1849). Also dupl. (distrib. Kew) in Herb. Leningrad [LE] and in Herb. Oxford [OXF]. |
