Graduated from the New York State Agricultural and Technical Institute (1962), B.Sc. from California State Polytechnic College in Ornamental Horticulture (1964), and subsequently a graduate student at the University of Hawaii, majoring in plant taxonomy. He was working on a thesis on the genus Joinvillea, and made a trip to the Malesian region to collect material and to make observations on pollination, dissemination, and ecology of that genus. |
