Born: 1839, Cortina in Asturias, Spain. Died: 1910, Valladolid, Spain.

career:

An Augustinian friar who collected plants in the Philippines together with his colleague C. Fernandez-Villar (see there).¹

Clerodendron navesianum Vidal was named after him (cf. Backer, Verkl. Woordenb., 1936).

collections:

Lost by fire in 1899, in the burning of the Guadalupe convent near Manila. Possibly duplicates of his collections were sent to Madrid before then.

(1) Together they edited the 3rd edition of Blanco, Flora de Filippinas, adding a name list (Novissima Appendix) of all Philippine plants known at that time.
