Born: 1874, Groombridge, Sussex, England. Died: 1960, Milnthorpe, Westmorland, England.

 

career:

M.B., B.Sc., D.Sc. (1900) at Glasgow, Senior Assistant to Professor of Botany, subsequently Lecturer, Bot. Dept. University of Glasgow, 1890-1908; Professor of Cryptogamic Botany, Manchester University, 1908-1940. One of his interests was palaeobotany.

He paid a short visit to Malaya when he went to Ceylon, early in this century (1900).

In Herb. Glasgow [GL (or GLAM)]: small collection of ferns from Malaya: dupl. presumably in Manchester [MANCH] (Prof. R.E. Holttum i.l. June 24, 1958), but according to Prof. D.H. Valentine no ferns in Manchester, but a lot of bryophyte material.
