career:

A nephew of Dr A.V. Schadenberg, a resident of Cebu (P.I.), and consul off duty. With Schadenberg (see there) he collected some plants in Mindanao, about 1882.

He made zoological collections in the Philippines, at least in Cebu, and Mindanao. In 1885 he was still in the Philippines.

Rhododendron kochii Stein was named after him.
