Swiss collector of Godefroy at Hamburg, Germany, who stayed for 11 years in the Samoa Islands. In 1862 and subsequent years he collected in the Fiji, Tonga and Ellices Islands; in 1872 returned to Europe. He accompanied the voyage of the ‘Planet’ (cf. itiner. etc. sub A. Kraemer), 1906- 07. Some time Inspector of a zoological station at Trieste. The liverwort Anastrophyllum graeffei Jack & Steph. was named after him. He is commemorated in Carex graeffeana Boeck. Author of ‘Samoa oder die Schifferinseln’ (Hamb. Mus. Godeffroy 1873). |

Herb. Berl. [B]: marine Algae collected near New Guinea and in the Pacific.1 Herb. Hamb. [HBG] (acq. with Herb. Mus. Godefroy in 1886) collection from the Pacific (Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, etc., made in 1862).2 He may have collected N.G. phanerogams too. |
