From 1888-1905 insect dealer at Berlin, later settled as private collector at Geneva and Munich. He travelled in Ceylon and Penang (1889), Java (1891/94), Celebes, Bali & Lombok (1895/96), and besides in N. America, Japan, and in several parts of Asia. Macromitrium fruhstorferi Card. is named after him. |

He is cited as the collector of 62 nos of mosses on the Buakraeng ( = Wawakraeng, one of the summits of G. Bonthain) in SW. Celebes.1 This collection includes 12 new species and one new genus. He may have collected in other islands too; up till now no collection of phanerogams is known to us. Bryophytes from Celebes (1895), also in Herb. Edinb. [E]. |
