As yet there is no certainty on the Java collector of that name. See also sub Booth, Jonas Thomas. A certain John Booth of the Flottbecker Baumschulen (= nursery) near Hamburg, Germany, built a new orchid house in 1844 (Bot. Zeit. 3, 1845, p. 48). In 1850 a catalogue of the firm of James Booth & Söhne offered many orchids for sale (Bot. Zeit. 9, 1851, p. 240). In 1861/62 the orchid collection of the firm was sold to England and they started growing water plants (Hamb. Gart. Blum. Zeitschr. 18, 1862, p. 433-436). Possibly a son of the family collected in Java for somebody in England. |
