Born: 1828, Breslau, Germany. Died: April 1865, Batanta, Papua Islands.

career:

Came to Java in 1854; at first physician of the Health Establishment at Gadok near Buitenzorg. Since 1860 he was subsidized by the Dutch Government for making zoological collections on behalf of the Leiden Museum of Natural History.

Api) and Morotai (July-Jan. 1862).-1862. For Jan. see before; back to Ternate; S. Halmaheira (June), Obi Islands; Batjan, Kajoa; back at Ternate (end of Sept.).-1863. In Jan. visiting P. Gebe(h), Gag(ie) and Waigeo(e) (Papua Islands), P. Dam(m)er; Ternate (July); Batavia.-1864. 2nd Tour. Sailing around Halmahera (July) and visiting some Papua Islands: P. Gebe(h), Batanta, Sal(a)wati, etc.; in April 1865 dying in Batanta.

In Herb. Breslau [WRSL]. Certainly mainly zoological. He is referred to as the discoverer of Wolffia schleidenii Miq. near Soerabaja, E. Java.²
