Specimen
Lysimachium verum
Geel wederick
Lysimachia vulgaris L.
Gewone wederik (NL), Garden loosestrife (UK), Lysimachion, Lythreon (Gr), Lysimachia, Salicaria (Lat), Geel wederick (Br).

Note: All large-flowered plants growing along streams and rivers were called Lysimachium. Only one genus retained this name. On the titlepage of Dodonaeus there is an illustration of a loosestrife. He wrote: 'het heeft sijnen naem gecregen van sijnen eersten ervinder Lysimachus, den sonne van Agothocles' (it got its name from the person who found it first: Lysimachus, son of Agothocles).
